Ryuta Makino, a technology analyst at Gabelli Funds, gives an update on the U.S. Chips act. The U.S. Chips Act will provide $52 billion in manufacturing grants and research investments and establish a 25% investment tax credit to incentivize semiconductor manufacturing in the U.S. The global market share of U.S. semiconductor manufacturing has fallen from 37% in 1990 to 12% in 2022. The United States aims to bolster leading edge domestic semiconductor manufacturing in the midst of growing geopolitical tensions between the U.S. and China.
